The BYU women’s gymnastics team finished third at the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on March 21, scoring 196.175 at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah.

The result marks a strong showing for BYU in a competitive field. The Utah Utes won their second consecutive Big 12 title with a score of 197.675, while Denver placed second with 196.575 and Arizona finished fourth with 194.725.

After early struggles in the first two rotations, BYU improved its performance on floor and vault events. Freshman Scarlett Sonnenberg achieved a career-high score of 9.950 on floor, tying for second among all competitors in that event. Deb Silva tied for third on vault with a score of 9.875, and Brynlee Andersen-Broekman tied for fourth on beam with a score of 9.900.

The Cougars began the meet on uneven bars, where Addilyn Glazier posted her highest score in six weeks (9.825). The team scored a total of 48.775 on bars before moving to beam for the second rotation and earning a combined score of 48.900.

On floor exercise during the third rotation, BYU found momentum as Sonnenberg (9.950), Daisy Stephenson (9.925), and Andersen-Broekman (9.900) each set career highs, helping the team to a total floor score of 49.475—their strongest event of the night.

In addition to team results, several individual honors were announced during the trophy presentation: Avery Neff from Utah was named Gymnast of the Year; Ana Padurariu from Utah received Event Specialist; Shyla Bhatia from Denver was recognized as Newcomer; Gianna Lenczner from Arizona earned Scholar-Athlete; and Guard Young from BYU was named Coach of the Year.

Looking ahead, BYU will await its placement for NCAA Regionals, which will be revealed during the NCAA selection show scheduled for Monday, March 23 at 10 a.m., broadcast on ESPNU and ESPN+.
