BYU was defeated by TCU 63-46 in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The loss ends BYU’s run in the conference tournament as they await their postseason fate.

Head coach Lee Cummard commented on the game, stating, “Tremendous team we came up against today. We started a little bit slow, and that was ultimately the difference in the end. I’m really proud of the group, their fight and the competitive spirit that they showed today and over the last three days as we try to beef up our postseason resume in this tournament.”

Delaney Gibb led BYU with 17 points and five assists, also sharing top rebounding honors with Brinley Cannon at seven rebounds each. The Cougars struggled offensively, shooting just 27 percent from the field and 18 percent from three-point range.

Defensively, BYU limited TCU to 16 points below its season scoring average and held them to 37 percent shooting from the floor—more than ten percentage points lower than their typical performance. The Cougars also reduced TCU’s three-point efficiency to 30 percent for the game, allowing only one made three-pointer across the final three quarters.

The first quarter saw TCU jump ahead early with a series of runs that put BYU behind 24-8 after ten minutes. BYU managed only three baskets on seventeen attempts in that period.

In the second quarter, both teams found scoring difficult until BYU tightened its defense and cut into TCU’s lead. The Horned Frogs were held to eight points—their lowest-scoring quarter this season—while BYU entered halftime trailing 32-19.

After halftime, BYU responded with a nine-point run to reduce its deficit to single digits for the first time since early in the game. However, TCU answered quickly and maintained control through the third and fourth quarters. Despite continued defensive effort from BYU, they could not close the gap.

With this result, BYU will now wait nine days for Selection Sunday when decisions about their postseason participation will be made.
