BYU women’s basketball ended its regular season with a 75-62 win over Colorado at the Marriott Center on Saturday, marking the program’s first victory against Colorado since 1982. The Cougars finished the season with a three-game winning streak.
The game also served as Senior Day, honoring players Lara Rohkohl, Heather Hamson, and Hattie Ogden. Head coach Lee Cummard commented on their impact: “A perfect senior class for our first year as a staff in the program. They represent us so well in all that they do. They play for the name on the front of the jersey, and they show up every single day and give everything they can to their teammates and to the program. You can’t find three better people. I’m very thankful for the example they’ve set for what a senior class should be.”
After trailing 56-48 at the end of the third quarter, BYU mounted an 18-0 run that led to a decisive 27-6 advantage in the fourth quarter. During this period, BYU made 11 of 16 field goals while Colorado struggled, hitting only two of 15 shots and missing all eight three-point attempts.
Delaney Gibb was key in BYU’s comeback, scoring 26 points—15 of which came in the fourth quarter—and adding seven assists, six rebounds, one steal, and one block. Freshman Bolanle Yussuf matched her career high with 13 points on efficient shooting and contributed five rebounds and two blocks.
Olivia Hamlin scored 13 points along with three rebounds, one steal, and one assist. Brinley Cannon also reached double figures with ten points.
With this win, Lee Cummard became one of only three coaches in BYU women’s basketball history to achieve at least 20 wins in their first season leading the team. His squad also recorded nine conference victories and finished with a .500 record in league play during his inaugural year.
BYU will next compete in the Big 12 Tournament at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri from March 4 through March 9.
