BYU women’s golf finished the first two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in second place on Apr. 7, carding an even-par total of 576 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.

The tournament is significant for BYU as it provides an opportunity to compete against other collegiate teams and improve their standings ahead of postseason play. The Cougars started strong with a three-under-par opening round, which was the second-best score among all teams in that round. After nine holes by each player, BYU had collectively made 14 birdies.

At the end of Monday’s play, BYU trailed only Iowa State, which led with a total score of 563 after posting a thirteen-under-par day. New Mexico State held third place at three-over par (579), followed by Sacramento State (580) and UNLV (582).

Individually for BYU, Whitney Banz and Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan both recorded scores of one-over par (145) to tie for sixteenth place. Barragan highlighted her performance with an eagle on hole sixteen during the second round. Lily McCauley and Ava Schroeder were tied for twenty-second at two-over par (146), with Schroeder’s five-under-par first round being the second lowest individual score in that round. Kanyanol Aramkul finished her first thirty-six holes ten over par (154), tying for seventy-eighth position. Competing individually, Berlin Long posted a three-over par through two rounds to tie for twenty-ninth.

The final round will begin Tuesday morning at Southern Dunes Golf Club at 8:30 a.m., with live scoring available online and updates provided via social media platforms.
