BYU announced on March 26 that its women’s track and field team will participate in the Ron and Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational, scheduled for March 27-28 at Allyson Felix Field at Loker Track Stadium.
The event is significant as it provides BYU athletes with an opportunity to compete against other collegiate teams early in the outdoor season, aiming to improve personal bests and program records.
Competition will begin Friday with discus and hammer throw events. Athletes Lia Pili, Jayda Lee, Lia Katoa, and Kaiah Fisher are set for the discus. Fisher recently achieved a mark of 54.35 meters (178-3) at the Utah Tech Invitational, which ranks her fifth all-time in BYU’s program history. Katoa currently holds tenth place on that list. In the hammer throw, Katoa is expected to be a key competitor as she possesses the seventh-best mark in school history.
On Saturday, throws continue with shot put and javelin events featuring Zoey Bonds, Sarena Mackley, Kat Beachler, Pili, Fisher (shot put), Tia Brown and Alysa Keller joining Bonds, Mackley and Beachler (javelin). Abbie Scott and Cailee Faulkner are slated for pole vault; Faulkner holds sixth place in BYU’s records with a clearance of 4.21 meters (13-9.75). Mackley will also participate in long jump.
In sprinting events, Paje Rasmussen aims for her first outdoor win this season in the 200-meter dash alongside Mackley. Cambria Hasler and Mikensi Smith are entered in the 100 meters. The lineup for the 400-meter hurdles includes Madelynne Taggart, Mayci Taylor—who has posted this meet’s top seed time—Berklie Ahlander, McEuen and Brown.
BYU is also set to run two relay races: Smith, Rasmussen, Kali McEuen and Marianne Barber form the squad for the women’s 4×100 meter relay; Hasler joins Smith, Taggart and Taylor for the women’s 4×400 meter relay.
