BYU stands seventh after opening day at Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships

BYU finished the first day of the Big 12 Championship in seventh place with a total of 136 points at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Arizona led after day one with 172 points, followed by Arizona State with 168 and Cincinnati with 158.

Two BYU swimmers achieved top-10 times in program history during Tuesday morning’s time-trial events. Sophie Scoville completed the 50-yard butterfly in 24.96 seconds, which is the fourth-fastest time ever for BYU. Annie Reichner Plumb recorded a time of 25.88 seconds in the 50-yard backstroke, placing her eighth all-time at BYU.

In relay competition, Emma Marusakova, Lucy Warnick, Sarah Eliason and Tatum Cooley placed sixth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.42. The team of Haylee Tiffany, Tatum Cooley, Kara Martinson and Victoria Schreiber also took sixth place in the 800 freestyle relay, finishing in 7:15.50.

On the diving side, BYU participated only in the team event on Tuesday. This event combines scores from three disciplines: the 1-meter springboard, the 3-meter springboard and platform diving. The Cougars finished ninth overall with a combined score of 233.90.

The championship continues Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center with more swimming and diving events scheduled to take place. Streaming coverage will be available on ESPN+.
