BYU softball will travel to Salt Lake City for a three-game series against Utah beginning Thursday, Apr. 23, in the second-to-last week of Big 12 play.
The matchup holds significance as both teams look to improve their positions in the conference standings. BYU enters the series with a record of 17-28 overall and 6-12 in the Big 12, while Utah stands at 30-17-1 overall and 6-11-1 in conference play.
The Cougars and Utes will open their series on Thursday at 5 p.m. Mountain Time, with games also scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the same time. All games are set to be streamed on ESPN+.
BYU recently secured a decisive win over Weber State, posting a score of 12-3 in five innings. Hailey Shuler contributed her second two-home run game within a week and achieved a career-high five runs batted in during that contest. Maddie Udall-Woolley extended her team-leading hit streak to ten games, matching her career-long mark.
Offensively this season, BYU is led by Danica Acosta (.342 batting average), Hailey Shuler (.336), Lily Owens (.323), and Udall-Woolley (.313). Both Owens and Ilove’a Brittingham have each recorded ten home runs so far. On the pitching side, Gianna Mares leads with 105 strikeouts across about thirty appearances.
Nationally, BYU ranks No. 27 in total double plays (21), No. 32 in double plays per game (0.47), and No. 38 in sacrifice flies (18). Individually, Owens’ five sacrifice flies place her among the top thirty players nationally.
Historically, BYU leads the all-time series against Utah by a margin of thirty-eight wins to twenty-three losses and holds a slight edge when playing on Utah’s home field with fourteen wins out of twenty-seven meetings there.
Looking ahead, BYU will host Arizona State next week for its final regular season Big 12 series.
