BYU softball lost to Auburn 10-1 in five innings during the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, California. The Cougars have a record of 3-10 overall and have not yet played a conference game in the Big 12.
Auburn took an early lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. BYU responded in the second inning after singles from Hailey Shuler and Maddie Udall-Woolley. A fielder’s choice by Bre Townsend and a wild pitch allowed Udall-Woolley to score, narrowing Auburn’s lead to 2-1.
Auburn increased its advantage by scoring three runs each in both the second and third innings, helped by five hits and one error from BYU. This put Auburn ahead 8-1. In the fourth inning, Auburn added two more runs following a leadoff walk and another home run, making it 10-1.
Danica Acosta led BYU with two hits in two at-bats. Maddie Udall-Woolley went one for two with one run scored. Despite getting runners on base in four out of five innings, BYU was only able to score once.
The game ended after five innings due to the run-rule.
BYU will finish its participation in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Saturday, February 21 against Washington at 3 p.m. PT on FloCollege.
