BYU softball lost its series finale against No. 2 Texas Tech, 12-4 in five innings at Tracy Sellers Field on Saturday afternoon, Apr. 4.

The game saw the Cougars take early leads in both the first and second innings before a seven-run fourth inning by the Red Raiders shifted momentum and secured their win.

Lily Owens put BYU ahead early with a solo home run over center field in the top of the first inning. Texas Tech responded with a two-run homer in their half of the inning to move ahead, but BYU regained the lead in the second after hits from Maddie Udall-Woolley and Tristen Turlington gave them a 3-2 advantage.

Texas Tech reclaimed control later that inning following a combination of singles, walks, and errors by BYU to make it 4-3. Udall-Woolley tied things up at four with a solo home run off the scoreboard netting in right center during the fourth. However, Texas Tech broke open the game with five hits—including another home run—three walks, two wild pitches, stolen bases, and a passed ball for an eleven to four lead by batting around their order that same frame.

The Red Raiders closed out scoring in the fifth after a walk, ground-rule double and fielder’s choice resulted in enough runs for a run-rule victory at 12-4 after five innings.

Player highlights for BYU included Maddie Udall-Woolley going two-for-two with one home run and one RBI; Tristen Turlington recording one hit—a double—and driving in two runs; Lily Owens finishing one-for-three with her solo homer accounting for another RBI.

Looking ahead, BYU will return home to Provo for a nine-game homestand beginning Tuesday night against Utah Valley.
