BYU softball lost to Kansas, 10-3, in the third game of its series on March 28 at Gail Miller Field.

The loss leaves BYU with an overall record of 11-22 and a conference record of 2-7 in the Big 12. The Cougars initially took the lead in the second inning but were overtaken after allowing five runs in the sixth inning, which proved decisive for Kansas.

Danica Acosta led BYU offensively, going three-for-four with a home run and two runs batted in. Bre Townsend contributed with a double and one RBI, while Jada Villegas pitched and allowed five hits and two earned runs with one strikeout. In the top of the second inning, Villegas helped BYU escape a bases-loaded situation by inducing a groundout. Acosta then singled to bring Hailey Morrow home for an early lead.

Kansas responded strongly in subsequent innings. Ella Boyer hit a two-run homerun in the third inning, followed by another solo home run from Hailey Cripe to give Kansas a two-run advantage. Townsend’s double brought Ilove’a Brittingham home as BYU narrowed the gap briefly before Kansas extended its lead further through additional homers and RBIs across later innings.

Acosta’s sixth-inning home run marked her second career homer and her second consecutive day hitting one, providing BYU’s final score of three runs. Both teams went scoreless in the seventh inning as Kansas secured both victory on Saturday afternoon and won the series overall.

Looking ahead, BYU will travel to Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock, Texas for its next series against No. 2 Texas Tech from April 2 to April 4. The opening game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Mountain Standard Time and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
