BYU softball lost to the Iowa State Cyclones, 9-6, in game three of their series on Saturday, April 18.

The outcome gives the Cyclones both the final game and the overall series. The Cougars were out-hit by Iowa State nine to eight and committed two errors compared to one for their opponent. BYU pitchers recorded six strikeouts while Iowa State managed two. Both teams had two runs batted in with two outs, and BYU pitching left six Cyclone runners stranded on base.

Key performances for BYU included Rita Tavita going one-for-three with a home run, two runs batted in (RBI), and one run scored; Hailey Shuler finishing one-for-four with a home run, two RBI, and a run; Maddie Udall-Woolley hitting one-for-four with a solo home run; and Lily Owens contributing an RBI sacrifice fly.

Iowa State took an early lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Cougars remained scoreless until Udall-Woolley’s solo homer narrowed the gap to 3-1 in the fourth inning. Despite efforts from Owens’ sacrifice fly and Tavita’s late-inning home run, BYU could not close the deficit as Iowa State continued scoring through late innings.

The loss concludes this series for BYU. Looking ahead, they will host Weber State on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m., with streaming available on ESPN+.
