On the fourth day of the Big 12 Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, Brigham Young University (BYU) set a new school record in the women’s 200 freestyle relay. The team, composed of Taylor Bennett, Tatum Cooley, Lily Flint, and Sophie Scoville, finished fourth with a time of 1:30.35. This result surpassed their previous record set earlier in the season against Utah.

At the end of day four, BYU was eighth in the team standings with 402 points. Arizona State led with 1227.5 points, followed by Arizona and Houston.

Two BYU swimmers achieved top-10 program finishes during finals. Sophomore Lucy Marek completed the 200 butterfly in 2:00.20 to place second in her consolation final and move to third all-time for BYU in that event. Katya Hulse won the bonus round of the 100 backstroke at 54.38 seconds, which ranks as the sixth-fastest performance in program history.

In preliminary races earlier on Friday, Marek qualified for finals by finishing fourteenth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.73. Maddie Johnson was BYU’s only swimmer in the 100 breaststroke prelims and finished thirty-fourth at 1:04.73.

The preliminary heats concluded with Katya Hulse and Emma Marusakova both advancing to finals in the 100 backstroke; Marusakova placed thirteenth (54.50), while Hulse finished seventeenth (54.85).

During finals, Marek’s performance improved her ranking within BYU records for the 200 butterfly event. In addition to Hulse’s top finish in her heat of the 100 backstroke, Marusakova earned fifth place in her own consolation round with a time of 54.04.

Women’s diving did not compete on Friday but is scheduled to participate Saturday for the platform event that will conclude diving competition at this year’s championship.

The Big 12 Championship continues Saturday at Greensboro Aquatic Center for its final day, with coverage available on ESPN+.
