BYU men’s track and field team will participate in the Texas Relays and the Texas State Bobcat Invitational from April 2-4 in Austin, Texas, according to an announcement on Apr. 1.
The events are significant opportunities for BYU athletes to compete against a broad field of competitors early in the outdoor season. The meets provide a platform for athletes to test their progress and set qualifying marks.
At the Texas Relays, Treyton Anderson, Garrett Copelin, and Brayden Dahl will begin competition Thursday afternoon in the 400-meter hurdles. Dahl recently set the No. 7 all-time BYU record in this event with a time of 50.32 seconds. Silas Zimmerman and Dallin Thornton are expected to close out Thursday evening for BYU with appearances in the pole vault.
Friday’s events include Mark Bryant competing in discus after winning first place at his career debut during the Utah Tech invitational two weeks prior. Tyler Poole is scheduled to join Erik Bryant in shot put, while Sam Jennings, Brinton Paulson, and Carson Riner will take part in javelin throw events. Copelin is also set to return alongside Jayden Jessee for the 110-meter hurdles as well as participate with teammates in the 4×100-meter relay on Friday. Saturday’s schedule features Mark Bryant again competing—this time in shot put.
At the Bobcat Invitational, Thursday sees both Bryant brothers along with Poole participating together in discus before returning Saturday for hammer throw and shot put competitions. On Friday, Hayden Gribble, Connor Saunders, and Carter Walker are scheduled for high jump while Zimmerman and Thornton continue their efforts in pole vault.
These meets offer an early look at athlete performance levels as they prepare for future competitions throughout the spring season.
