The BYU men’s track and field team will participate in the Long Beach State Beach Invitational at Jack Rose Track on April 17-18.
The event brings together collegiate athletes for a range of competitions. The meet is seen as an opportunity for BYU athletes to showcase their skills across multiple events, both on the track and in the field.
Erik Bryant is scheduled to begin the competition for BYU with the hammer throw on Friday. He will also compete in discus and shot put events on Saturday, joined by Mark Bryant and Tyler Poole. Senior Josh Taylor will take part in the 200-meter dash on Friday, alongside All-American Jonah Heimuli, Brayden Dahl, Jayden Jessee, and Garrett Copelin. Hayden Gribble, Brinton Paulson, and Carson Riner are set to conclude Friday’s events with the javelin throw.
On Saturday morning, high jumpers Gribble, Connor Saunders, and Carter Walker are slated to compete while Silas Zimmerman and Dallin Thornton participate in pole vault. The relay team of Treyton Anderson, Dahl, Logan Hubler, and Taylor is expected to run in the 4×100-meter relay before Hubler, Copelin, Anderson, and Jessee move on to compete in the 110-meter hurdles. Several of these athletes are also entered into the 400-meter hurdles.
Taylor joins Heimuli and Ty Oustrich in entries for the 400-meter dash; Oustrich will also run again later that evening in another heat of the 200-meter dash. The meet concludes with a final race featuring Taylor, Heimuli, Copelin, and Dahl as part of BYU’s 4×400-meter relay squad.
This invitational provides an important mid-season test for participating athletes ahead of future competitions.
