The Brigham Young University (BYU) men’s track and field distance group will compete at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, April 3, according to an announcement made on Apr. 2. The event will take place at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
The meet is important for the BYU team as it provides an opportunity for athletes to face strong competition early in the outdoor season. This could help them prepare for future meets and championships.
Caleb Johnson, Brayden Packard, and Jacob Robison are scheduled to open the competition for BYU in the 400-meter race. Following this event, Jefferson McMullin, Garrett Stanford, Jackson Henstrom, and Max Davis will participate in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Carter Cutting, who is noted as an indoor mile national champion, will compete for only his second time this season in the 1500-meter race alongside Tayvon Kitchen, Johnson, Packard, and Robison. The lineup for the 5000-meter includes Land Lambert, Jacob Stanford, Hunter Kitchen, All-American Isaac Hedengren, Noah Jenkins, Tayvon Kitchen, and Davin Thompson.
In the final event of the day for BYU’s distance runners—the 10,000-meter—Creed Thompson will lead a group that also features Cutting again along with Patrick Cullen and Dalton Mortensen.
This meet serves as a significant test for BYU’s distance athletes as they look to gain experience against top collegiate competitors.
