The BYU men’s tennis team will play its last home match of the season against Arizona State on April 8 at the Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Cougars, ranked No. 72, are seeking to end a four-match losing streak as they face the No. 27 Sun Devils.
This matchup is significant for BYU as it marks senior night, with Adam Chodur, Alex Edmonston, and Redd Owen playing their final home games for the Cougars. The team has an overall record of 13-7 and stands at 1-5 in Big 12 conference play after recent losses to TCU and Baylor.
Chodur joined BYU after transferring from Sacramento State where he earned All-Big Sky honors. This season he has played every match at the No. 1 singles position for BYU, holding a singles record of 9-8 and a doubles record of 7-7 on the top court. Edmonston, who started his collegiate career at Concordia before transferring to BYU three years ago, captured a doubles title this fall alongside Tygen Goldammer and has compiled notable records in both singles and doubles matches throughout his time with the Cougars.
Owen contributed significantly during his career by competing in all dual matches last season and helping secure one of BYU’s highest-ranked wins against UCF in more than two decades. He currently holds a singles record of 7-11 this year while playing across multiple positions.
Arizona State comes into Thursday’s contest following consecutive victories over ranked opponents, including a shutout win over Oklahoma State that improved its season record to 16-8. The Sun Devils have one nationally ranked singles player—Bor Artnak—who is currently absent due to participation in an ATP Challenger event but boasts an impressive individual ranking.
Historically, BYU leads Arizona State in their all-time series; however, ASU won both meetings between these teams over the past twenty years. Thursday’s game also marks Arizona State’s first visit to Provo since before either current roster was assembled.
