The BYU men’s tennis team will finish its regular season on the road against Utah on April 10, with both teams vying for position in the upcoming Big 12 tournament. The match is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. Mountain Time at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.

This matchup carries significance as BYU seeks to break a five-match losing streak and improve its seed in the conference tournament. With all nine Big 12 programs earning automatic bids to the tournament in Orlando starting April 16, a win over Utah would allow BYU to secure the No. 7 seed and avoid a play-in match, which ended their run last year.

BYU enters ranked No. 72 nationally and has been outscored by opponents during its recent losing streak, managing only one point across its last three matches. However, Thursday’s doubles victories from TJ Wells and Tygen Goldammer (6-3), along with Otto Schreiner and Adam Chodur (6-4), ended a drought that could provide momentum heading into singles play.

Utah will be BYU’s first unranked opponent since early March and holds an overall record of 5-15 this season, including six losses in their last seven matches. Their most recent win was a home victory over Texas Tech by a score of 4-2—the same margin by which they defeated BYU earlier this year.

In individual performances, Utah’s Simeon Terziev leads singles play with an eight-win record but is currently on a three-match skid. In doubles, Dante Teramo and Balthazar Huss have notched back-to-back wins recently.

Historically, BYU holds a favorable record against Utah since 2000 but has lost both meetings since joining the Big 12 Conference together—including last year’s contest in Provo.
