The BYU Cougars men’s tennis team concluded its regional play in Colorado by splitting two matches over the weekend. On Friday, BYU secured a close 4-3 victory against Denver, avenging losses from previous years. The match was decided in the final singles contest, where freshman Caden Hasler came back after dropping the first set to clinch the win for BYU.
In doubles play against Denver, Tygen Goldammer and TJ Wells earned a 6-3 win on court three, while Adam Chodur and Otto Schreiner won 7-5 on court one to secure the opening point for BYU. In singles, David Duong returned to action with a straight-set victory, but Denver managed to keep pace throughout the match. Ultimately, Hasler’s performance in the deciding singles match gave BYU its tenth consecutive win of the season.
However, that streak ended on Saturday when BYU fell 6-1 to Air Force. The Falcons took an early lead by winning two out of three doubles matches. In singles competition, Air Force extended their advantage as Yubel Ubri retired his match due to injury and then captured victories in three more singles contests. Goldammer provided BYU’s only point with a straight-set win.
This loss marked BYU’s first defeat against Air Force since 2014 and brought their undefeated run this season to an end.
