BYU men’s tennis lost 4–2 to No. 66 Texas Tech Red Raiders at the Outdoor Courts on Mar. 27.
The result moves BYU to a season record of 13–5 and a Big 12 Conference mark of 1–3. The closely contested doubles matches set the tone, with all three courts tied at five games each before Texas Tech secured the doubles point by winning on Courts 1 and 3.
In singles play, BYU initially gained momentum by taking the opening set on four out of six courts. Tygen Goldammer and Hardy Owen both recorded strong first-set wins, while freshman Yubel Ubri and David Duong also claimed their opening sets. However, Caden Hasler lost his match after dropping a first-set tiebreaker.
Owen kept his undefeated singles season alive for BYU with another win, but after Texas Tech took a straight-set victory on Court 5, the Cougars trailed overall. Goldammer delivered his team-leading fourteenth singles win by prevailing in three sets. With Texas Tech ahead 3–2, Ubri led in his third set before play was paused; during this time, Texas Tech clinched the overall match with a decisive third-set win on Court 3.
Looking ahead, BYU will travel next week to face top-10 programs TCU Horned Frogs and Baylor Bears as they continue conference play.
