BYU’s men’s tennis team will play Boise State in the championship match of the Boise Invitational after securing victories over Gonzaga and Idaho on Friday.
The final is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. Boise State enters the match after two 4–0 wins in round-robin play.
BYU holds a 25–16 lead in its regional rivalry with Boise State. The teams have met several times during fall tournaments this season, including the Dar Walters Classic and ITA Regional Championships. In those events, singles matches were split evenly, while BYU won all three doubles contests.
In their match against Gonzaga, BYU started strong with Hardy Owen and Caden Hasler winning their doubles match 6–1. However, BYU lost the doubles point as the other pairs lost in tie-breakers. In singles, Tygen Goldammer tied the score with a straight-sets win. After Hardy Owen lost his singles match, Hasler won to give BYU another point. Redd Owen came back from losing his first set to win his match, and Adam Chodur secured victory for BYU by winning a three-setter.
Against Idaho, BYU won both doubles matches to claim its first doubles point in three matches. In singles play, all six courts went to a third set. Chodur and Hasler each won their matches to give BYU a 3–0 lead. After Redd Owen lost his match, David Duong clinched the overall win for BYU by taking his singles match in three sets.
