No. 6 BYU men’s volleyball lost for the second time this week to No. 3 Hawai’i, bringing their season record to 13-4. This marks the first time this season that BYU has been defeated in straight sets, with all four of their losses coming against teams ranked No. 3 and No. 4 nationally.

Trevor Herget led BYU with 10 kills, following a career-high performance earlier in the week. Connor Oldani contributed nine kills with just one error on a team-high 25 attempts, while AJ Cottle recorded five blocks for the Cougars.

BYU struggled offensively, finishing the match with a .183 hitting percentage compared to Hawai’i’s .446.

In the first set, BYU started strong but quickly fell behind as Hawai’i built a substantial lead and won the set 25-18. The Rainbow Warriors committed only two hitting errors in that set, while BYU had six.

The second set began with a successful challenge by BYU that awarded them the first point, but Hawai’i responded by scoring four consecutive points. The teams traded leads until late in the set when Hawai’i pulled ahead and secured a 25-21 win.

During the third set, BYU briefly held an early lead before Hawai’i took control and closed out the match with a decisive 15-5 run to win the final set 25-16.

BYU will continue its road trip next week with matches against UC Merced on Friday and Jessup on Saturday.
