BYU men’s track and field team is set to participate in the Big 12 Indoor Championships, which will take place at Texas Tech’s Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas on February 27-28.
Throughout the regular season, BYU has achieved 17 performances that rank among the top ten in its history. The team also broke two school records and earned one weekly Big 12 award.
Carter Cutting, who recently broke his own school record in the indoor mile, is expected to compete for the Big 12 title in that event along with teammate Max Davis. Freshman Tayvon Kitchen, who holds BYU’s record in the indoor 3000 meters, will join Isaac Hedengren (No. 3 all-time at BYU), Thomas Boyden, Davis, Creed Thompson (No. 6), Brayden Packard, and Noah Jenkins (No. 9) in the same event.
Ben Barton, current BYU heptathlon record holder and All-American, is set to compete for a conference title after finishing as runner-up last year. He will be joined by Jaden Roskelley (No. 5 all-time at BYU) and Kaden Passey.
In hurdles events, Logan Hubler (No. 3 all-time at BYU for the 60-meter hurdles) will compete alongside Jayden Jessee and Garrett Copelin. Jessee is also scheduled to participate in long jump while Hubler will run the 200 meters with Brayden Dahl.
The middle distance races feature Jake Orr and Jacob Robison in the 600-yard dash; Packard and Tyler Sainsbury are entered in the 1000 meters. Carter Walker and Connor Saunders are listed for high jump competitions.
For throwing events, Peyton Williams and Erik Bryant are set for weight throw while Tyler Poole competes in shot put on Saturday. Silas Zimmerman and Dallin Thornton are entered into pole vault.
Jenkins will run the indoor 5000 meters—he ranks seventh all-time at BYU—and he will be joined by Boyden, Davis, and Hedengren. The distance medley relay team includes Cutting, Dahl, Packard, and Kitchen.
The meet concludes with a 4×400-meter relay team made up of Dahl, Copelin, Hubler and Jonah Heimuli.
