BYU men’s tennis falls to Boise State in invitational final

The BYU Cougars men’s tennis team lost 4-2 to Boise State in the final of the Boise State Spring Invitational on Saturday in Boise, Idaho.

Boise State began the match with a 6-1 victory in doubles, but BYU responded as Otto Schreiner and Adam Chodur, along with Caden Hasler and Hardy Owen, each secured 6-2 wins. This gave BYU an early 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Singles matches were closely contested, with all but one going to three sets. After falling behind 2-1, Tygen Goldammer experienced his first singles loss of the season. He won the opening set 6-4 before dropping the next two sets 6-1 each. David Duong kept BYU’s hopes alive by winning his third set 6-1 after losing the second set 6-0.

With Boise State leading 3-2, they clinched the tournament title when Avery Tallakson defeated Adam Chodur 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

The Cougars will return home for Big 12 conference play with two matches in Provo. Their next match is scheduled against the Arizona Wildcats on Thursday, March 12 at 5 p.m.
