The No. 27 BYU men’s golf team won the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational at Silverado Country Club and Resort in Napa Valley, Calif., on Mar. 24, finishing with a score of 54-under par (267-281-262–810).
The win is significant for BYU as it marks their first team victory of the spring season and their third overall for the 2025-26 campaign. The Cougars set new program records, including the lowest single-round score and lowest total under par over 54 holes.
Head coach Bruce Brockbank said, “What a great win for our guys this week. Everyone contributed to the win. It’s so fun to see our guys come out leading the tournament and shoot the lowest round of the tournament in the final round.” Director of golf Todd Miller added, “As a coach, you are always working and waiting for everything to come together. You want to see all of your team playing their best golf at the same time and it rarely happens. Today was one of those days when everyone was firing on all cylinders.”
BYU posted a final round score of 26-under par (262), which is now recognized as its best-ever single-round performance. Three Cougars finished in the top five individually: Kihei Akina secured his second consecutive individual title with a career-best total (65-67-63–195), Peter Kim finished runner-up at 16-under par (67-72-61–200) after tying for second-lowest round in school history, and Tyson Shelley tied for fifth at seven-under par (67-72-70–209). Akina said, “It feels great to get the team win. Being in the record books means a lot to me knowing how many great players BYU has had… We saw great golf out of everyone and we look to play our best golf as we get later in the season.”
Santa Clara placed second at 29-under par while Tohoku Fukushi University, USF, and North Alabama shared third place at twenty under par each.
Looking ahead, Miller said, “We will play in an early practice round tomorrow and get a good night’s rest before The Goodwin,” noting that similar course conditions should help maintain momentum.
