The No. 27 BYU men’s golf team is set to participate in the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational on March 23-24 at Silverado Country Club and Resort in Napa Valley, California, according to a March 22 announcement.
The event marks the third consecutive year that BYU will compete in this tournament. The Cougars previously won the team title and Cooper Jones claimed the individual title at this event in 2024.
In their most recent outing, BYU finished third overall at the R.E. Lamkin Invitational. Freshman Kihei Akina led the team by winning the individual trophy with a personal best score of 14-under 202 over three rounds. Akina also recorded a career-low round of 64 during his first collegiate victory.
The Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational will feature a field of 14 teams. Central Michigan will host the tournament in collaboration with the Golf Coaches Association of America and PGA Tour’s Pathway to Progression program. Other participating schools include USF, North Carolina A&T, Howard, North Alabama, Florida A&M, Santa Clara, Cal Poly, UConn, UC Davis, Eastern Michigan, Hawaii and Tohoku Fukushi.
BYU’s lineup for the event includes Akina, Peter Kim, Simon Kwon, Tyson Shelley and Angus Klintworth. Klintworth will make his first start of the spring season and his first appearance since The Bryson Invitational last October. Freshman Parker Bunn will compete as an individual.
The Cougars are scheduled to begin play with a 36-hole day on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard along with updates on Instagram and X.
