BYU men’s golf team was ranked No. 23 in the updated Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll, according to an announcement on Mar. 27.
The ranking highlights BYU’s return to the top-25 after receiving enough votes following recent tournament performances. The Cougars had previously appeared in five of six rankings this season and re-entered the poll with 80 votes, having narrowly missed out earlier in March with just 21 votes.
During the fall portion of the season, BYU held positions at No. 13, No. 17, No. 12, and No. 25 in various polls before temporarily dropping out earlier this month. The team’s improved standing is attributed to its results at both the R.E. Lamkin and Bridgestone Collegiate Invitationals since the last ranking update; Kihei Akina won individual titles at both events while BYU finished third at R.E. Lamkin and secured first place at Bridgestone.
Four other Big 12 schools were also included in the latest top-25: Oklahoma State (No.6), Texas Tech (No.7), Arizona State (No.9), and Arizona (No.20). Utah received one vote but did not make it into the top-25.
Auburn claimed first place in this edition of the poll with Virginia second and Florida third.
