BYU men’s golf will compete in the R.E. Lamkin Invitational at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California on March 9-10, according to a March 8 announcement.
The tournament is significant as it brings together BYU and 15 other collegiate teams, offering an opportunity for the Cougars to improve their standing after finishing ninth at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii last month.
The field includes co-hosts San Diego and San Diego State, along with UC San Diego, Colorado, Pacific, University of San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, Saint Mary’s, UC Irvine, UT Arlington, Fresno State, Wyoming, Long Beach State, Cal Poly and UC Davis. The event will be played on a 7,033-yard course.
BYU’s lineup features Kihei Akina—who recently finished tied for 16th at the Puerto Rico Open—freshman Jackson Mauss, junior Peter Kim and seniors Simon Kwon and Tyson Shelley. Angus Klintworth and Parker Bunn will participate as individuals.
Tee times are set for Monday at 8:45 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time with players scheduled to complete 36 holes that day. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard with updates provided through Instagram and X.
The competition offers BYU another chance to test its roster against strong opposition as the season progresses.
