This contest marks the seventh meeting between BYU and Cincinnati, and the fourth since both programs joined the Big 12 Conference before the 2023-24 season. The series is currently tied at three wins each. BYU has one previous victory in Cincinnati, which occurred on January 3, 1931.
BYU head coach Kevin Young holds a 1-1 record against Cincinnati’s Wes Miller. Young’s sole win came at home with an 80-52 result on January 25, 2025. In their last visit to Fifth Third Arena, BYU lost after being outscored significantly in the second half. Richie Saunders and Egor Demin led BYU’s scoring that night, while Jizzle James of Cincinnati recorded a game-high 24 points.
In their most recent outing on Saturday, BYU fell to West Virginia by a score of 79-71 after trailing by 14 points at halftime. The Cougars narrowed the gap to three points late in the game but could not capitalize due to missed opportunities. Despite shooting better than West Virginia—47.1 percent from the field—BYU struggled with rebounding as West Virginia secured a significant advantage on the glass and generated more second-chance points.
Robert Wright III led BYU with 23 points against West Virginia, while AJ Dybantsa contributed 20 points—his eighth consecutive game scoring at least that many—and Aleksej Kostic added double figures for his second straight game.
AJ Dybantsa is expected to surpass the milestone of playing over 1,000 minutes as a freshman during Tuesday’s game. He has appeared in all of BYU’s games this season and accumulated significant playing time across his appearances.
Kennard Moo’ Davis Jr.’s performance has correlated with team success; when he scores in double figures this season, BYU holds a record of six wins and two losses.
Senior Keba Keita continues to rank among NCAA leaders in field goal percentage for players who have made at least 350 career field goals. This season he is shooting over 66 percent from the floor and owns both top spots for single-season field goal percentage in program history.
Defensively, BYU’s block totals are among the best in school history for a single season, currently tied for fourth-most ever with two regular-season games remaining. The team ranks nationally within the top third for blocks per game since the start of conference play. Keita leads this effort individually and is approaching further milestones for blocked shots within a single season.
Robert Wright III stands out statistically among Power Conference players by averaging over 18 points per game along with strong assist and rebound numbers while maintaining high shooting percentages across all categories. His performance has improved during conference play and includes several high-scoring games recently.
Freshman AJ Dybantsa has broken or matched nine program records this year—including most points scored by a freshman in a single game (43), most field goals made (15), most field goal attempts (28), most free throws made (17), most free throw attempts (20), and recording the only triple-double by a freshman in program history.
