BYU loses final game of series against No. 20 West Virginia

West Virginia defeated BYU 11-1 on March 21 in the last game of a three-game Big 12 baseball series at Kendrick Family Ballpark.

The result marks another win for No. 20 ranked West Virginia, which improved its record to 16-4. BYU now stands at 10-12 for the season. West Virginia scored 11 runs on nine hits and left 11 runners on base, while BYU managed one run from five hits and stranded seven.

After a scoreless first inning, West Virginia took control in the second with four runs, including two unique stolen bases at home. The Mountaineers added another run in the fifth inning before Crew McChesney hit a leadoff home run for BYU in the sixth, bringing the score to 5-1. However, West Virginia responded with three runs in the seventh and finished with three more in the eighth for an 11-1 victory.

Maxx Yehl, who was recently named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, struck out eleven BYU batters over seven innings to earn the win. For BYU, sophomore Ezra McNaughton saw his notable twenty-game hitting streak end during this matchup.

Looking ahead, BYU will return to Utah to play against the Utes on March 24 at America First Ballpark in Salt Lake City. The Cougars are also scheduled to host Oklahoma State for a weekend series from March 26 to March 28.
