BYU gymnastics will participate in the second round of the NCAA Tempe Regional on Thursday, April 2, at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe, Arizona. The meet is scheduled for 2 p.m. Mountain Time and will be available via live stats and streamed on ESPN+.

The event is significant as it marks BYU’s continued presence in national competition after a regular season that saw the team finish ranked No. 24 by RTN. The Cougars also secured rankings of No. 25 on vault, No. 23 on bars and beam, and No. 22 on floor.

Head Coach Guard Young was named the 2026 Big 12 Coach of the Year following a season where BYU achieved a winning record (10-7) for the first time since 2022 and its best Big 12 record (4-2) since joining the conference. Several athletes received individual honors: Ava Jorgensen was named to the All-Big 12 Bars team, Brynlee Andersen-Broekman earned a spot on the beam team, and Scarlett Sonnenberg received All-Freshman team honors.

During this season, BYU defeated four top-25 teams including an away win against No.14 Clemson and posted seven scores above a total of 196—two more than last year’s tally. At the Big 12 Championship presented by Allstate, freshman Scarlett Sonnenberg tied for second among all competitors on floor with a career-high score of 9.950; Deb Silva tied for third on vault with a score of 9.875; Brynlee Andersen-Broekman tied for fourth on beam with a score of 9.9.

Other teams competing at regionals include Georgia (No.6), which recently finished fifth at SEC Championships with its highest session score since 2004; Michigan State (No.11), which placed second at Big Ten Championships; and Southern Utah University (SUU), which claimed its fourth consecutive MPSF Championship title.
