No. 24 BYU gymnastics is set to compete against No. 12 Utah and West Virginia in a tri meet scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at the Huntsman Center. The event will begin at 3 p.m. MT and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
BYU has maintained its position as the No. 24 team in the RTN rankings and holds national rankings of 26th on vault, 22nd on bars, 26th on beam, and 21st on floor. The Cougars concluded their Big 12 conference schedule with a record of 4-2, which marks their best performance since joining the conference. They also completed an undefeated home season (5-0), including a forfeit by ISU, and drew a total of 12,838 fans across four home meets.
Deb Silva achieved a personal best score of 9.875 on bars in BYU’s recent win over West Virginia, securing the top podium spot in that event. Kylie Eaquinto was among the nominees for the AAI Award, recognizing outstanding collegiate gymnasts.
In their last matchup with West Virginia during the final Big 12 dual of the season, BYU secured a victory with a score of 195.975-195.275—its first conference road win this year—and earned podium finishes on bars, beam, and floor events.
Since joining the Big 12 conference, BYU has faced West Virginia five times and holds an unbeaten record against them (5-0), including last weekend’s win in Morgantown. West Virginia will also be competing against Utah during Saturday’s meet as they seek their second Big 12 victory this season.
Against Utah, BYU faces a challenging history; since 1999, Utah has won all 33 meetings between the two teams. In their most recent encounter earlier this season—a Big 12 dual—Utah defeated BYU with a score of 198.025-196.025. This week, Utah’s Avery Neff was named Gymnast of the Week while Sage Curtis earned Newcomer of the Week honors from the Big 12 Conference. With an undefeated Big 12 record (5-0) and a recent win over Denver, Utah claimed its second consecutive Big 12 Gymnastics Regular Season Title and secured a place in Championship’s second session later this month.
