BYU guards Delaney Gibb and Olivia Hamlin have been recognized with All-Big 12 honors after contributing to the team’s best conference finish since joining the league in 2023, according to an announcement from the Big 12 Conference on Tuesday.
Delaney Gibb was selected for the All-Big 12 First Team. Olivia Hamlin received an honorable mention and a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
“Delaney Gibb is the bullseye player for every opponent we play, yet she continues to make plays for others and herself to help our team win,” head coach Lee Cummard said. “She is a player that every coach wants on their team as she is all about winning and putting the team first. Delaney has had a great year and has grown a lot. We are glad to have her on our team and for what she does to help build a culture of winning here at BYU.”
“Olivia has had a great freshman season and continues to get better every day,” said Cummard. “She is a flat-out scorer and changes the game as quickly as anyone who has ever played at BYU. She has such a high ceiling and is going to be trouble for Big 12 opponents for years to come.”
Gibb built on her previous achievements, having earned unanimous Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors and made the All-Big 12 Second Team last season. She started her sophomore campaign averaging 16.3 points, six assists, four rebounds, two steals, and half a block per game over the first four games before suffering a lower leg injury that kept her out of nonconference play.
Upon returning, Gibb came off the bench in BYU’s Big 12 opener at UCF, posting double-digit scoring in nine consecutive games afterward. During this stretch, she averaged nearly 18 points per game while helping BYU match its conference win total from last season. Notable performances included an 18-point game against No. 19 Texas Tech Lady Raiders—the program’s first ranked win under Cummard—and key contributions in breaking a losing streak against rival Utah Utes.
In the latter part of conference play, Gibb increased her averages to 20 points per game over eight contests as BYU finished with a .500 record in league play—its best since entering the conference.
Her standout moment was a career-high 37-point performance at Utah’s Huntsman Center on February 21, leading BYU to complete its first sweep of Utah as conference opponents since 2011.
As BYU closed out its regular season with three straight wins, Gibb averaged just under 30 points along with strong numbers in rebounds and assists. She also earned three Big 12 Starting Five honors during the season and was named among the top ten midseason candidates for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award by USBWA.
Freshman Olivia Hamlin made an immediate impact by helping BYU start with five straight wins while averaging nearly fifteen points per game during that span. When Gibb was sidelined by injury early in the season, Hamlin stepped into the starting lineup and helped lead BYU to an 11-1 non-conference record—the highest non-conference winning percentage in program history.
Hamlin continued as one of BYU’s main scorers throughout conference play even after returning to a reserve role when Gibb rejoined the starters. She set new personal bests including a career-high 23 points against Iowa State Cyclones on February 10, sparking six consecutive double-figure scoring games down the stretch.
She twice earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors during her debut campaign—first after closing non-conference play strong in December, then again after combining with Gibb for nearly half of BYU’s points in their win at Utah.
Among freshmen players in the conference this season, Hamlin ranks second in scoring average (12.6 ppg) while leading all rookies in both total steals (53) and steals per game (1.77). Her performances also placed her among several statistical categories within BYU’s freshman record book.
BYU will next face Houston Cougars as the No.9 seed in their opening round matchup at this year’s Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Kansas City. The contest will be available via streaming on ESPN+ and broadcast live on multiple BYU Radio platforms.
