The BYU football team has started its spring practice sessions for the 2026 season, holding its first workout on Friday afternoon in Provo, Utah.
Following a successful campaign that saw the Cougars secure their first 12-win season since 2001, the team brings back several standout players. Running back LJ Martin, who was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Big 12 Conference, returns alongside quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who earned recognition as Offensive Freshman of the Year.
On offense, All-American center Bruce Mitchell is back to lead an experienced offensive line that includes both returning and new athletes. The defensive unit features All-American safety Faletau Satuala as well as linebackers Isaiah Glasker and Siale Esera. Defensive lineman and team captain Keanu Tanuasa also returns to anchor the front line.
Several new additions joined spring practices for the first time with BYU. These include linebacker Cade Uluave, a transfer from Cal, and wide receiver Kyler Kasper from Oregon.
The Cougars will continue practicing through April 3 before transitioning to offseason workouts and summer strength programs.
Head coach Kalani Sitake spoke with media members after practice along with LJ Martin, Keanu Tanuvasa, and Bruce Mitchell.
