BYU drops to eighth after day two at Big 12 swimming & diving championship

BYU dropped from seventh to eighth place after the second day of the Big 12 Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. Arizona maintained the lead with 519.5 points, followed by Arizona State at 401 and Cincinnati at 258. BYU finished the day with a total score of 189.

Although BYU lost one position in the standings, several athletes set new top-10 times for the program. Brinley Knoll achieved the seventh-fastest time in school history for the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:01.38. Katya Hulse recorded a ninth-place finish in the 50 backstroke time trial at 25.93 seconds, and Sophie Scoville also secured a ninth-place performance in program history by finishing the 50 freestyle in 23.05 seconds.

In preliminary events, Victoria Schreiber and Cher Patrick advanced to finals in the 500 freestyle, placing 14th and 22nd respectively. Lucy Warnick and Brinley Knoll both reached finals in the 200 individual medley, with Warnick finishing 12th (2:01.19) and Knoll taking 16th (2:01.64). In the 50 freestyle prelims, Tatum Cooley, Lily Flint, and Sophie Scoville all qualified for finals; Flint led this group with a 20th-place finish at 22.97 seconds.

During finals, Schreiber repeated her prelim result by finishing 14th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53.70, while Patrick came in at 22nd (4:57.49). Knoll earned her top-10 program mark in the final of the 200 individual medley and placed overall at number fourteen; Warnick improved to twelfth place with a time of 2:00.60.

In the finals for the 50 freestyle, Scoville posted another top-10 BYU performance (23.06), earning her twentieth place overall; Flint (23.08) and Cooley (23.12) followed closely behind.

The diving team participated in the one-meter event where Brooklyn Goeckeritz led BYU divers by finishing seventeenth with a score of 238.15 points. Aubryn Ordyna placed thirty-first (213.50), while Sophia DeBergh finished thirty-third (210.80). None of these scores were enough to qualify for finals.
