The Brigham Young University (BYU) women’s track and field distance team is preparing to participate in the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, California on April 3-4.
The event will mark the first outdoor appearance this season for Jane Hedengren, who was recently crowned indoor NCAA champion in both the 3000-meter and 5000-meter races. Hedengren is set to compete in the 10,000 meters alongside teammates Jenna Hutchins and Nelah Roberts. Hutchins currently holds the school record for the event with a time of 32:22.98 from last season.
Raygan Peterson, Addie Meldrum, and Emerald Kehr are scheduled to run in the 3000-meter steeplechase. For Meldrum, this will be her debut attempt at that distance. In the 1500 meters, school record holder Carlee Hansen-Thompson will be joined by Carmen Alder, Taylor Rohatinsky—who ranks eighth all-time at BYU with a time of 4:12.76—and Zariel Macchia.
Grace Hutchison and Taylor Lovell are set to compete in the 5000 meters. The Saturday schedule features the women’s 800 meters, which is expected to be led by Tessa Buswell; she currently ranks eighth all-time at BYU with a personal best of 2:02.26. Joining Buswell will be Kylie Olsen, Krystie Solomon-Jensen, Anne Elise Packard, Carmen Alder, Carlee Hansen-Thompson and Taylor Rohatinsky.
The meet provides an opportunity for several athletes to make their season debuts or try new events as they look ahead toward further competitions this spring.
