BYU defeated Utah Valley 13-3 in a seven-inning baseball game on May 12 at Larry H. Miller Field in Provo, closing out its non-conference regular season. The Cougars secured the win with a strong offensive performance, highlighted by a seven-run fourth inning.
The victory gives BYU (26-25, 13-14 Big 12) momentum heading into its upcoming series against Kansas. “It means a lot to win this one,” Ezra McNaughton said. “We need all the momentum we can going into the weekend series against Kansas. Playing a team like Utah Valley that is just down the road always gets the energy going. The in-state games are a lot of fun to play in.”
Key contributors included McNaughton, who went 1-for-2 with three runs batted in and a home run; Tualau Wolfgramm, who was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs; Matt Hansen, who went 2-for-2 with three RBI; Ryder Robinson, who had an RBI and two runs scored; and Parker Goff, who added two hits and two RBI.
The game began with UVU taking an early lead on a solo home run before BYU responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Cougars extended their lead throughout the middle innings, including scoring seven times in the fourth to break open the contest.
Utah Valley managed to score single runs in both the third and fifth innings but could not keep pace as BYU continued to add insurance runs late. The game ended after seven innings due to the ten-run rule.
Looking ahead, BYU will host No. 17 ranked Kansas from May 14 through May 16 for its final regular-season Big 12 series of the year. All games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ as well as local radio outlets.
