BYU announced on March 20 that its women’s track and field team will start the outdoor season at the Utah Tech Invitational, held at Greater Zion Stadium in St. George, Utah, on March 21.
The event marks the beginning of the Cougars’ outdoor competitions for the year. Several athletes are set to participate across a range of events, highlighting both returning talent and new competitors making their debuts.
The throws group includes Kat Beachler, Kaiah Fisher, Jayda Lee, Lia Pili, and Sarena Mackley. Beachler holds the No. 7 all-time mark at BYU in the outdoor shot put and will compete in both shot put and javelin. Fisher and Pili are entered in shot put and discus events, while Lee is scheduled for discus. Mackley will compete in javelin, discus, long jump, and the 200-meter race.
In sprinting events, Cambria Hasler, Kali McEuen, Paje Rasmussen, and Mikensi Smith will form a team for the 4×100 meter relay. McEuen and Rasmussen were part of last year’s Big 12 title-winning 4×400 meter squad; both will also run in the 400 meters this weekend. Hasler is entered in the 100 meters while Smith will compete in the 200 meters.
Mae Johnson enters as top seed for high jump representing BYU. In hurdles events, Tia Brown and Berklie Ahlander are set to make their debut appearances in the 100-meter hurdles; both will also join Mayci Taylor and Madelynne Taggart in competing in the 400-meter hurdles.
The meet provides an early opportunity for athletes to establish marks for later qualification meets as well as gain experience outdoors after indoor competition.
