BYU baseball will face Utah Tech at Miller Park in Provo on Tuesday, March 10 at 3 p.m. MDT, according to a March 9 announcement. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and available for listening on BYUradio.org and the BYU Radio app.

The matchup is significant as it continues the in-state rivalry between BYU and Utah Tech, with both teams having met twice each season since Utah Tech joined Division I in 2021. BYU currently holds a 16-4 advantage in the series, though both teams split their games last season.

Despite losing three games to Cal Baptist last weekend, BYU’s offense showed improvement by scoring 24 runs over the series. Six Cougars hit .300 or better during those games, including senior outfielder Ryker Hurdsman who went 7-for-13 with two home runs and five RBI. Three players—Ezra McNaughton (.375 average), Cooper Jones (.320), and Crew McChesney (.300)—enter Tuesday’s game hitting above .300 for the season.

Several players on BYU’s roster have ties to southern Utah, including Hurdsman who began his collegiate career at Utah Tech before transferring. Other notable southern Utah natives include Payton Gubler, Ridge Erickson, Cayson Bell, and Luke Anderson—all of whom contributed to high school championship teams.

Utah Tech comes into the game with a strong start to its season under head coach Chris Pfatenhauer, now in his 14th year. The Trailblazers are currently second in the Western Athletic Conference standings with a record of 13-3 overall and have performed well both at home (6-2) and on the road (7-1). Their early-season highlights include sweeping UC Riverside and Northern Colorado as well as winning series against CSU Bakersfield and Pacific.
