BYU baseball will play its longtime rival Utah on March 24 in Salt Lake City at the newly opened America First Ballpark, according to a March 23 announcement. The Cougars will then return home for a three-game Big 12 series against Oklahoma State from March 26-28.
The matchup between BYU and Utah marks the 385th meeting between the two programs since records began in 1948. The longstanding rivalry continues to be significant for both teams and their supporters.
All four games this week, including the contest against Utah, will be broadcast live on ESPN+ as well as on the BYU Radio app, BYUradio.org, and locally on 107.9 FM in Utah County. The upcoming game with Utah concludes a five-game road trip for BYU that included an 18-5 win over Utah Tech followed by three losses at No. 20 West Virginia.
BYU shortstop Ryder Robinson was recently named Brooks Wallace Award National Player of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation after hitting .500 with three home runs during the week of March 9-15. Robinson currently leads his team in stolen bases and has started all but one game this season alongside teammates Ezra McNaughton and Crew McChesney, who are among leaders in most offensive categories for BYU.
On the mound, seven different Cougars have earned wins this year. Senior right-hander Luke Sterner is scheduled to start Tuesday’s game against Utah; he has appeared in eight games so far this season.
Utah enters Tuesday’s non-conference matchup with a record of 13-8 (3-3 Big 12), while BYU stands at 10-12 (2-4 Big 12). The Utes are led by coach Gary Henderson and top performers Cameron Gurney and Jake Long offensively, while four pitchers share the team lead with two wins each.
