BYU baseball lost to Cincinnati 9-7 at Miller Park on March 13, evening the three-game Big 12 series at one win each.
The result sets up a decisive third game after both teams have claimed a victory. The Cougars now hold an overall record of 8-9, while the Bearcats improve to 15-5.
Cincinnati started strong with a two-run home run in the first inning and added three more runs by the sixth, putting BYU behind 5-0. Ezra McNaughton scored BYU’s first run in the bottom of the sixth, followed by a three-run homer from Easton Jones that narrowed the gap to one run. In the seventh inning, Luke Anderson hit a two-run home run that gave BYU its first lead at 6-5.
However, Cincinnati responded with a three-run eighth inning to retake the lead. Both teams added runs in the final innings, but Cincinnati held on for a 9-7 win. Key performances for BYU included Anderson going two-for-four with three runs batted in and one home run, and Jones contributing three RBIs and a home run as well.
The final game of the series is scheduled for Saturday at Miller Park in Provo. The matchup will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and available on BYUradio.org and through the BYU Radio app.
