BYU baseball lost to Cal Baptist 11-7 in the final game of a three-game series at Miller Park on Saturday. The Cougars initially led 3-0 after Luke Anderson hit a bases-clearing triple in the second inning, scoring Matt Hansen, Bryker Hurdsman, and Cooper Jones.
Cal Baptist responded with a three-run home run in the third inning to tie the game. In the fourth, the Lancers scored four runs on four hits, including two runs that came from wild pitches. They added three more runs in the fifth inning, extending their lead to 10-3.
BYU attempted a comeback in the bottom of the fifth. Ryder Robinson led off with a double, and Matt Hansen drove him in with a fielder’s choice. Easton Jones singled before Hurdsman hit a three-run homer over center field, reducing Cal Baptist’s lead to 10-7.
Both teams were scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings. Cal Baptist then added an RBI double in the eighth for an 11-7 advantage. BYU was unable to rally further as Cal Baptist secured the win.
Hurdsman finished with four hits and three RBIs for BYU. Anderson had one hit and three RBIs, while Hansen contributed one hit, two runs scored, and an RBI. On the mound, Brayden Marx pitched three innings without allowing any runs and struck out four batters.
The Cougars will next play Utah Tech at Miller Park on Tuesday, March 10 at 3 p.m. MST. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ as well as BYUradio.org and on the BYU Radio app.
