BYU secured a 10-5 victory over Utah Valley on April 7 at UCCU Ballpark in Orem, Utah. The Cougars overcame an early deficit by scoring multiple runs in each of the final four innings.
The game was notable for BYU first baseman Matt Hansen’s performance, as he went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored. BYU finished with seven hits and left nine runners on base, while UVU collected ten hits but stranded thirteen runners.
Utah Valley took an initial lead with a two-run double by Chipper Beck in the third inning. Hansen tied the game for BYU in the fourth with his first home run of the season. UVU briefly regained a one-run advantage before BYU responded with three runs in the sixth inning to take control of the game.
Key moments included a seventh-inning rally where Tu’alau Wolfgramm delivered a single that helped extend BYU’s lead, and additional insurance runs added by sacrifice fly and groundball plays in the eighth inning. Eight pitchers contributed for BYU, limiting UVU to four earned runs and striking out twelve batters. Tyler Ball earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings at the start of the game, while Justis Reiser closed out with his first save of the season.
Looking ahead, BYU will travel to Texas for a three-game Big 12 series against Houston from April 9-11 at Schroeder Park. All games are scheduled to be broadcast live on ESPN+ as well as various radio platforms.
