BYU baseball defeated Utah Tech 18-5 on March 17 at Bruce Hurst Field in St. George, Utah.

The game saw BYU improve its record to 10-9 for the season, with seven starters recording multiple hits. Luke Anderson, Ezra McNaughton, and Crew McChesney each collected three hits during the game.

Utah Tech took an early lead with a two-run home run by Ryan Kroepel in the first inning and added another run in the second for a 3-0 advantage. BYU responded in the third inning with seven runs on four walks and four hits to take control of the game. Key contributions included Anderson’s single that scored Parker Goff, McNaughton’s single that brought home Tu’Alau Wolfgramm, and additional runs scored on wild pitches and a sacrifice fly from Easton Jones.

The Cougars extended their lead with five more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Wolfgramm’s two-run single and home runs from Anderson and Ryder Robinson. BYU continued to add to its total with another run in the seventh and five more in the ninth inning. Freshman reliever Ethan Zufall pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball to earn his first win as a Cougar.

In two games against Utah Tech this season, BYU has scored a combined total of 37 runs on 40 hits.

Looking ahead, BYU will travel to Morgantown for a three-game Big 12 series against West Virginia from March 19-21 at Kendrick Family Ballpark. West Virginia holds a record of 13-4 this year and is tied with BYU at 2-1 in conference play. The upcoming games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ as well as BYUradio.org and the BYU Radio app.
