Brigham Young University announced on March 26 that its track and field team will participate in the USC Ron and Sharlene Alice Trojan Invitational, held at Allyson Felix Field at Loker Track Stadium on March 27-28.
The event marks an important early-season test for BYU athletes across multiple disciplines, providing opportunities for collegiate debuts, season openers, and record pursuits. The meet features competition in throwing events, sprints, hurdles, jumps, relays, and more.
On Friday, Mark Bryant will lead the throws group by competing in both the discus and hammer throw. This will be Bryant’s first collegiate appearance in the hammer throw after he won the discus event at the Utah Tech Invite with a mark of 52.22 meters (171 feet-4 inches). He will be joined by his brother Erik Bryant and teammate Tyler Poole in both events. All three are also scheduled to participate in shot put on Saturday.
Saturday’s schedule includes Kaden Passey and Jayden Jessee opening competition in the long jump. Passey is also set to run the 400-meter alongside All-American teammates Josh Taylor—who holds BYU’s third-fastest time ever at 45.74 seconds—and Jonah Heimuli. Heimuli is also entered in the 200-meter race.
Jessee is slated for both hurdle events: the 110-meter hurdles (joined by Treyton Anderson and All-American Jaden Roskelley) as well as the 400-meter hurdles (with appearances from Anderson, Garrett Copelin—who recently set a meet record at Utah Tech—and Brayden Dahl).
Additional Cougars expected to make their outdoor season debuts include pole vaulters Dallin Thornton and Silas Zimmerman; javelin throwers Roskelley, Hayden Gribble, Carson Riner, Brinton Paulson; high jumpers Gribble (doubling up), Carter Walker, and Connor Saunders; plus teams entered into both sprint relay events.
The Trojan Invitational offers a platform for returning stars as well as newcomers to showcase their skills early in the outdoor season.
