Ben Barton moves to No. 4 on BYU decathlon record board at Bryan Clay Multis

Ben Barton advanced to fourth place on the Brigham Young University all-time decathlon record board after his performance at the Bryan Clay Multis at Cougar Athletic Stadium in Azusa, California, on April 10.

Barton finished first overall with a score of 7,998 points in the ten-event competition. This result improved his personal best by 133 points from his previous mark of 7,865 points set during his Big 12 championship win in 2025.

During the event, Barton set a personal record in the discus throw with a distance of 41.47 meters (136-1), placing second among his group. He also took first place in the 400-meter race with a time of 46.85 seconds and was runner-up in both the high jump (2.04 meters/6-8.25) and the 100-meter dash (10.57 seconds). In addition, he finished second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:36.39.

Kaden Passey also competed for BYU in another section of the decathlon and achieved a personal-best score of 7,335 points to finish third overall in his group and surpassing the 7,000-point barrier for the first time. Passey recorded new personal records in several events including running the 110-meter hurdles in 15.82 seconds, throwing shot put at a distance of 13.95 meters (45-9.25), leaping to a mark of 6.68 meters (21-11) in long jump, and finishing the 100 meters in just over eleven seconds at exactlyĀ 11.17Ā seconds.

Passey also took first among his group participants with a discus throw measuringĀ 45.96Ā meters (150-9).

The next scheduled meet for BYU Cougars is set for Saturday, AprilĀ 11 at McCarthy Family Track during Utah Spring Open heldĀ in Salt Lake City.
