Utah Valley University freshman forward Belle Sorensen has been named the Utah State of Sport High School Female Athlete of the Year. The award, presented at the annual Governor’s State of Sport Awards, recognizes outstanding athletic achievement among high school athletes across Utah.

The State of Sport Awards are organized by the Utah Sports Commission in partnership with the Governor’s Office. Honorees are selected by a committee made up of sports professionals and media members from Utah. This year’s awards dinner is scheduled for April at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

Sorensen signed with Utah Valley in November and joined the women’s soccer team early for spring training after graduating high school ahead of schedule.

“This is truly a special honor for Belle and we are extremely proud of her for this prestigious recognition,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. “To be named as one of Utah’s finest athletes across all sports is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She is accompanied on this list with some very impressive men and women.”

Sorensen, who comes from Bountiful, was named 5A Player of the Year in both 2024 and 2025. She played a key role in leading Bountiful High School to its first state championship since 2006 during the 2025 season, contributing a goal and an assist in their comeback win over Olympus High School.

Over her four-year varsity career, Sorensen scored 81 goals and provided 33 assists. She earned all-state honors each year and was recognized as one of Utah’s top offensive players at the high school level.

In club soccer, Sorensen played for La Roca FC between 2022 and 2025, helping them win the Northwest Division ECNL U-18 conference title. She also competed on national and regional championship teams through UYSA in previous years.

Sorensen joins a Utah Valley program that recently won its fourth consecutive WAC regular-season championship. In 2025, UVU finished with a record of 14-5-3 overall and secured an NCAA Tournament berth—the fifth appearance in program history. The Wolverines will compete in The Big West Conference starting with the upcoming season.

Sorensen is currently training with her new team as she begins her college soccer career.
