Baylor defeated BYU 12-5 on April 2 in the first game of a three-game Big 12 baseball series at Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark.
The result puts Baylor at a season record of 17-12 overall and 6-4 in conference play, while BYU falls to 13-15 overall and 4-6 in the Big 12. The matchup is significant as both teams look to improve their standings within the conference.
Baylor scored early with two runs in the first inning, then extended its lead throughout the game. BYU managed five runs on eight hits but left nine runners on base. Notable performances for BYU included Ridge Erickson, who went two-for-two with three runs batted in, three runs scored, a home run, a double, and a walk; Ezra McNaughton had three hits and one RBI; Matt Hansen contributed two hits and one run.
BYU cut into Baylor’s early lead with a solo home run by Erickson in the third inning but struggled to keep pace as Baylor continued to add runs across multiple innings. The Cougars’ attempts to rally were met with strong pitching from Baylor that limited further scoring opportunities.
