Barragan tied for fourth as BYU women’s golf sits twelfth entering final round

Maria Jose “MJ” Barragan is tied for fourth place after two rounds at the Lady Luck Invitational, held at Las Vegas Country Club. Barragan posted scores of 74 and 71 for a total of 145, finishing the day one-over-par. She is five shots behind the leader and one stroke away from second place. This puts her in contention for her first individual title since April 2025.

The BYU women’s golf team recorded a combined score of 41-over-par (312-308–620) and stands in 12th place after two rounds. Head coach Carrie Roberts commented on the team’s performance: “Not our best,” Roberts said. “Hopefully, we can make some adjustments and do better tomorrow.”

The University of Central Florida leads the tournament with an eight-over-par score (304-280–584), recording the only under-par round of the day with an eight-under in the second round and making 29 birdies across both rounds. Kent State is in second at twelve-over-par (294-294–588). Houston holds third place at eighteen-over-par (296-298–594), while UNLV sits fourth at twenty-over-par (295-302–597). Oregon State rounds out the top five at twenty-two-over-par (307-291–598). Both BYU and UNLV were the only teams to record an eagle during Monday’s play.

Among other BYU players, Kanyanol (Naji) Aramkul finished tied for 26th after shooting eight-over-par over two rounds. Lily McCauley is tied for 60th at sixteen-over, Ava Schroeder is tied for 71st at twenty-one-over, and Whitney Banz is in 75th position with a score of twenty-four-over.

The final round will begin Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. MST.
