BYU women’s tennis lost to Arizona State 4–2 on Apr. 9 at the Outdoor Tennis Courts in Provo. The Cougars, ranked No. 27, challenged the No. 11 Sun Devils in a competitive Big 12 matchup.
The match was significant as it tested BYU against one of the top-ranked teams in the nation, highlighting their ability to compete at a high level.
Arizona State took an early lead by winning doubles matches on courts one and three. In singles play, Gracie Levelston gave BYU its first point after her opponent retired following a close first-set tiebreak win for Levelston over No. 28 Emilija Tverijonaite. YuYun Chen then won her singles match against Lily Taylor with scores of 7–5 and 6–4, bringing momentum back to BYU.
Bella Lewis played a close three-set match on court six after winning the opening set but ultimately fell short in a tight finish. Sage Bergeson also competed strongly on court five; she forced a third set before her match went unfinished when Arizona State clinched overall victory.
With this result, Arizona State improved its season record to 18–4 while BYU moved to an overall record of 18–6.
Looking ahead, BYU will host Arizona for its final regular-season home game on Saturday at the Outdoor Tennis Courts with first serve scheduled for 11 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time.
